Before your first treatment, it's important to avoid sun exposure on areas being treated. Your skin needs to be its natural skin tone in order to be safely treated, so no tanning or sunless tanner throughout your treatment.
We'll need you to shave 2-3 days before your first treatment, waxing and plucking should be avoided. Come in for treatments with clean skin- no makeup, lotions, deodorants, or perfumes.

Welcome back! You’ll notice you don’t have to shave as often and hair is noticeably more sparse. After your first treatment, the laser power will begin to increase with each visit to provide you with the best results possible.

Generally, between treatments 8-12 you can do a happy dance because you are 95%+ Hair free! Hooray! You won't come in for regular treatments anymore.

Some skin types and conditions don’t require any maintenance, while others need 1-2 maintenance sessions a year for the first 2 years. Your practitioner can best advise depending on your specific needs.

What do I need to do pre-treatment?
- Do not wax or pluck for at least six weeks before your treatment date (you may shave during this period).
- Avoid direct sunlight (as well as artificial tanning creams, sprays, or tanning beds) for at least two weeks before treatment
- Don’t apply makeup, skincare products, or perfume the day or your procedure (treated areas need to free of chemical products)
- Shave the area to be treated a day or two before each treatment, laser works best with a 5 O'clock shadow this allows the laser light energy to be directed to the hair follicles without the hairs interfering.
- Do not bleach any area being treated for two weeks prior to each treatment
- Do not use any active ingredients 5-7 day prior to the treatment
What to expect after a laser treatment?
Immediately after treatment, you will still find hairs present however they will start to fall out in the hours and days following treatment. One thing that can cause post treatment confusion is that the laser hair removal process does not physically remove individual hairs that are present. Instead, it damages the follicles to prevent future growth. Do not try to accelerate this process by scrubbing the treated area or by plucking out individual hairs.
- You may apply an ice pack post treatment if you are experiencing any discomfort
- Do not scrub the treated area AT ALL
- Apply sunscreen for the following two weeks, do not allow the treated area in direct sunlight
- Call if any blisters or scabs develop
Potential side effects
Laser hair removal is FDA approved and when performed by a trained and experienced esthetician, it is a safe and effective procedure.
However, some people may experience mild side effects, including:
- Redness
- Irritation
- Swelling
More rare side effects may include:
- Bruising
- Blistering
- Hyperpigmentation
Contraindications
- Inflammation or infection conditions in a treated area
- Drug induced photosensitivity, especially Isotretinoin (Accutane) or Tretinoin (Retin-A)
- Recent sun exposure or artificial tanning 3 weeks before the treatment
- Tattoos or permanent make up in the treated area
- Pacemaker
- Pregnancy
- Recurrent Herpes Simplex
- Anti-coagulant therapy
- Auto-immune diseases such as Discoid lupus erythematosus
- Immunosuppressive diseases or usage of immunosuppressive medications
- Epilepsy
- History of cancer, malignant skin cancers or precancerous lesions
- Raised moles and/or irregular pigmented lesion
- Severe diabetes
- History of keloid scarring
- Varicose veins or large diameter vessels (only for vascular lesion treatments)
- Any other clinical condition considered inappropriate as per practitioners’ discretion
